A Call For Testimonies And Firsthand Accounts From Democratic Primary
Shadowproof is publishing accounts from citizens about their struggles to force change at state-level 2016 Democratic Party conventions, participate in caucuses, or cast their ballots during primary elections.
We are particularly interested in how the Democratic Party establishment has treated supporters of Bernie Sanders. In countless ways, it is clear the party has rejected newcomers because they support political ideas, which deeply conflict with the party’s corporate politics.
This project is part of an effort to counter dominant narratives in the establishment media, which characterize many supporters as petulant or cast them as violent and unhinged from reality. Most of this narrative is based on social media interactions with individuals online, who may or may not have had anything to do with bolstering the success of the Sanders campaign.
The Sanders campaign represents a larger political uprising that goes beyond the presidential nomination. It represents a potential to advance the causes of social, economic, racial, and environmental justice. That is why the push back against individuals seeking to democratize the primary process and challenge corporate politics is so important to highlight.
