Get Tickets For Shadowproof’s Events Series!
To our readers, members and other supporters,
If you’ve surfed our About page or read our introductory posts, you know our goal is to create a vibrant and sustainable home for journalists. That’s why we launched the Shadowproof Membership Program last month — to cultivate a strong sense of community and to organize a stable source of independent funding for our work.
We want to give our members and readers a greater stake in the reporting we do here, so we organized our Shadowproof Events series, which we are pleased to debut today.
We’ll be hosting online video webinars with authors, thinkers and doers who are shaking things up with their work. Shadowproof Members will have unlimited, free access to as many events as they want to attend.
If you’re not a member, you can join for as little as $10/month to get unlimited access, or purchase tickets for the webinars for $5 each. The proceeds from your purchase will help fund our work here at Shadowproof and help us continue to develop programs like our event series.
If you can’t attend, rest assured that we will share recorded highlights of every event on Shadowproof afterward.
The first event takes place on November 5, featuring Mary E. Buser, author of “Lockdown on Rikers Island.” Her new book chronicles her time and experiences as a mental health worker under the Giuliani administration at one of the largest and most violent jail complexes in the nation. “Lockdown on Rikers” is a prescient, first-person account of how people with mental illness are treated in New York City jails, and it couldn’t come at a better time — NYC is in the midst of proposing and implementing a wide range of criminal justice reforms aimed at addressing longstanding issues with violence and inhumane conditions in its jails.
If you have been following the news on Rikers Island and prison reform more generally, you won’t want to miss this talk. Click here to get a ticket for $5
We have three other great events scheduled for the next few months, including Antony Loewenstein’s “Disaster Capitalism,” Kris Hermes’ “Crashing the Party” and “Censored 2016: The Top Censored Stories & Media Analysis of 2014-2015” with Mickey Huff and Andy Lee Roth.
We’re busy scheduling more events and panel discussions, so please keep an eye on the calendar for updates! We’ll post about new and upcoming events here as well.
