Rania Khalek is still in Lebanon to produce journalism on Syria, and for this week’s show, she provides an update on Syrian government forces, which bombed, pushed out rebel forces, and retook half of Aleppo’s “rebel district.”

Later in the episode, Khalek and Kevin Gosztola talk about Dakota Access Pipeline resistance and a class action lawsuit against police for their assault on water protectors on November 20. (Shadowproof covered Vanessa Dundon, who may never see from her right eye again because she was hit by a tear gas grenade. The story of this incident gained wide attention a few days later when the Daily Beast covered it.)

We highlight legislation, which passed in the U.S. Senate, called the “Anti-Semitism Awareness Act.” It empowers the Department of Education to attack free speech and go after pro-Palestinian activism by college students.

In another part of the show, we discuss CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski, who helped legitimize a right-wing attack on Keith Ellison this week by publishing smears that the Islamophobic group, the Investigative Project On Terrorism, is spreading to undermine Ellison’s campaign to become chair of the Democratic National Committee.

And if that weren’t enough, we wrap the show with some conversation on “fake news.”
