Hillary Clinton Tries Again On Email Lie, Says She ‘Short-Circuited’
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could medal in a lying Olympics. Her robotic poise and endurance in continuing to lie about what she has done and said about her private email use is truly remarkable.
On Friday, former Secretary Clinton told reporters that she did not lie to Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace about FBI Director Comey’s statements about her truthfulness. Instead, Clinton argued she “short-circuited” during the interview and meant to say that Comey had said she was truthful with the FBI, not the public:
Director Comey had said that my answers in my FBI interview were truthful. That’s really the bottom line here and I have said during the interview and in many other occasions over the past few months, that what I told the FBI, which he said was truthful, is consistent with what I have said publicly. So I may have short-circuited and for that, I, you know, will try to clarify.
Except, no. FBI Director Comey never said that. Not only did he directly contradict Clinton’s public claims on her email use, he never said her comments during a private unrecorded FBI interview aligned with her public comments.
Former Secretary Clinton is trying to claim that Director Comey is saying he had no evidence she lied during her FBI interview, and that somehow means Comey is saying she was truthful about her email use. While that is not a blatant lie like Clinton’s other claims, it certainly qualifies as dishonest—something even Clinton sympathizers have conceded.
Jeremy Stahl of Slate said Clinton’s short-circuited claim “is misleading at best and false at worst,” calling the entire press conference a “masterclass in obfuscation.”
Charles Pierce of Esquire said Clinton’s answers during the press conference on her email use were “barely in the neighborhood of English. It is legalistic gobbledegook. You can turn an ankle trying to get from premise to conclusion in that tangled thicket of weaselspeak.”
So, for those wondering what a Hillary Clinton presidency is going to be like, you have your answer: constant lying and perpetual bullshitting to obfuscate evidence of the lying after the fact. This is just what a public, which has lost trust in government, needs.
