Hillary Clinton Lies About Emails, Again
In one of her first post-convention interviews, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace that “[FBI] Director Comey said my answers [regarding the email scandal] were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people, that there were decisions discussed and made to classify retroactively certain of the emails.”
This is flatly not true and, more to the point, Hillary Clinton knows it is flatly not true.
Even the Clinton-friendly Washington Post said Clinton lied and gave her “Four Pinocchios,” the worst rating. FBI Director Comey made it crystal clear he did not agree with Clinton’s statements or narrative on how she handled classified emails, both in his press conference and before Congress:
CONGRESSMAN GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said there was nothing marked classified on her emails either sent or received. Was that true?
FBI DIRECTOR COMEY: That’s not true.
GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said, “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material.” Was that true?
COMEY: There was classified material emailed.
Director Comey never said Clinton did not lie; he never even said she did not break the law. Instead, Comey claimed he and the FBI concluded that no reasonable prosecutor would bring a case, an argument that drew reasonable scrutiny given that was arguably a decision for Attorney General Loretta Lynch to make.
But, in any case, Comey never exonerated Clinton nor said she was telling the truth about her email practices. In fact, he said the opposite, even offering that if Clinton were still in government she might lose her security clearance given the “extremely careless” way she handled classified information.
Beyond the problems with a potential commander-in-chief not being able to responsibly handle sensitive information, is the ever-present issue of Hillary Clinton’s rank dishonesty. A recent CNN poll [PDF] had 68% of respondents saying Hillary Clinton is not honest and trustworthy.
Clinton supporters try to paint Clinton’s honesty and trustworthiness problem as the result of conservative smears, but the truth is the public’s views are well-founded, as the email case demonstrates. Clinton has a problem with telling the truth, one that appears to be chronic and pathological.
In which case, it seems unlikely to go away anytime soon.
