Because of U.S. reluctance to admit Younous Chekkouri’s innocence, Morocco is threatening to subject the former Guantanamo prisoner to more investigations.

After months of pressure by Reprieve, a human rights organization, former Guantánamo prisoner Younous Chekkouri has finally been freed from a Moroccan jail.

The U.S. admitted Younous Chekkouri, a man held in Guantanamo for 14 years, has no ties to al-Qaida. But that may not stop Morocco from charging him anyway.

Former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Younis Chekkouri was released last week and flown to Morocco, where authorities have detained him in one of the country’s most notorious prisons. He now urgently demands a United States federal court release documents proving his innocence, which the U.S. has withheld for the past four years.
