More Food Supply Questions: It’s A Jungle Out There?

Photo via Carol Esther.

Upton Sinclair would have had a field day: “The old man used to look for distressed situations: Someone over-inventoried or had peanuts from last year that they had to move,” said David Brooks, who was a buyer for a snack company that refused to purchase from Parnell because of concerns about sanitation and what he called the “culture” of the family business….

Hello There, Mark Montini, GOP Operative

If you think WV is the only state that’s going to be hit with the anti-gay dreck, you can think again.  The GOP strategery is like the borg — they keep on trying to assimilate you with their recycled dreck.  And, as Pam at Pam’s House Blend points out, it really is recycled dreck.

Pam dug up a nugget on the anti-gay WV video front

Out-Of-State Hate, Complete With Fake Gay Sniper Video

Via WVBlue, I see that some out-of-state goober has decided the strategery for WV’s Republican party in the 2010 election cycle is….*sound of trumpets*…SCARY GAY PEOPLE! Complete with an offensive video (YouTube) that includes a gay sniper about to shoot at a family blowing bubbles.  I kid you not.  The sniper scope view aimed at the heterosexual family shows up at :58. Beyond offensive. Why target WV?   Because they think we are too stupid to think for ourselves.  We’ve had to deal with this level of GOP dumbassery before

And What Has The Government Ever Given To Us?

Sometimes, a bit of Monty Python answers all the mysteries of the universe:- And what have they ever given us in return?

– The aqueduct?

– What?

– The aqueduct.

– Oh. Yeah, they did give us that. That’s true, yeah.

– And the sanitation.

Sunday Cuppa

Use with permission via Julie’s Magic Light Show. It’s Sunday morning. What’s catching your eye in the news or on the blogs this morning?

This caught mine: are blogs making the discussion over economics and solutions to the financial crisis more polarized and harder to solve? Or are they bringing out the points and the questions that ought to already be part of the public discourse on the subject

Saturday Potluck

It’s Saturday. Think of this thread as a space to catch up, have a laugh, share a recipe or ask for one, talk life, liberty and the pursuit of whatever is motivating you at the moment. In short, it’s a discussion thread potluck.

Last week’s worked out so well, I think I’ll keep it as a regular feature.

I’ll start:

Waves Of Anger And Fear?

Ready yourself for the shrieks, the cries, the dittohead fury…the wingnut run on Depends: Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair told Congress today that instability in countries around the world caused by the current global economic crisis rather than terrorism is the primary near-term security threat to the United States….Blair also raised the specter of the “high levels of violent extremism” in the turmoil of the 1920s and 1930s along with “regime-threatening instability” if the economic crisis persists over a one- to two-year period.

Pull Up A Chair…

I love this picture. The joy, the affectionate smooch, the playful giggle. Just made me laugh out loud when I saw it. Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all.

It’s been a long week, full of twists and turns, crankiness and anxiety, laughter and tears. At the end of the day, what we all have is our families, our friends, the people we care about…and each other.
