After 11 Years of War, US Admits Bombing Civilians Is Bad Publicity

I don’t understand this New York Times article. Following outrage by Afghanistan officials and citizens over yet another deadly airstrike on Afgan civilian residences last week, US/NATO commanders announced they will restrict further air strikes on residential homes . . . except when they decide to strike residential homes. “Given our

Van Jones Closes NN12 With Pleas to Save Nation… and Obama from Tea Party

The ghost of the 2008 candidate Barack Obama haunted Netroots Nation 2012 in Providence, Rhode Island. He hovered over every panel — at least the 10 or so panels I attended — and pervaded the general assemblies and closing session in which Van Jones gave the final pitch for progressives not to give up.

Politico’s Jonathan Allen Finds Magic Way to Eliminate Deficit

I don’t know why no one thought of this before, but Politico’s Jonathan Allen reports on an extremely clever idea for eliminating the federal deficit. In How the SCOTUS could help Congress save billions, Allen shows all that’s needed is for the Supreme Court to declare the federal government to be unconstitutional.

Dear Politico: Noting the Economy Is in Serious Trouble Is Not a Sign of Senility

Those of you who are my age or older will be distressed to learn that Politico thinks you’re going batty. For the last three years, much of the US media has treated the condition of the US economy, and the fate of millions of people suffering from the effects of

Jim Messina Wants My Money to Build Barn Door for Empty Barn

I’m not sure these people get it.

From time to time, Jim Messina, campaign manager for the President’s “Obama for America” group, likes to send me nice e-mails letting me know what’s up with the campaign. The latest missive, following last night’s Wisconsin recall election, informs me that the problem Democrats had in Wisconsin was that the other side put in a lot of money for their guy and outspent our guy. This seems important information.

So being the clever fellow he is, Jim says “we” shouldn’t let that happen again.

To Honor Ray Bradbury (1920-2012): Some Ideas to Memorize

Science fiction writer Ray Bradbury died on Tuesday at the age of 91. I thought we might honor Bradbury’s life and work by passing on a few ideas that are worth preserving as we ponder the meaning of Wisconsin and mourn America’s descent into union bashing and income inequality, enforced by secrecy, propaganda and protected financial looting.
