Can We Trade Ben Bernanke for Mark Zuckerberg?

Mark Zuckerberg, the kid who made himself a billionaire by combining the internet with the well-known human traits of loneliness, voyeurism and exhibitionism has now wisely used his fabulous wealth to cut down on his mortgage payments. He’s managed to cut the interest rate on his multimillion dollar home mortgage to just a few ticks above 1 percent.

Hunger Games: Are We Watching America in the 21st Century?

The House of Representatives, every GOP member voting “aye,” showed how this is possible. Along with a handful of stupid, cowardly and evil Democrats, nearly very Republican voted to subject several million people, including several hundred thousand children, to the certainty of malnutrition and heightened risk of actual starvation, for no other reason than they regarded slashing the budgets for food stamps to be a moral, patriotic thing to do, or worse, something the victims fully deserved.

Tim Geithner’s Libor: Where Was the Barking Dog?

It has occurred to members of the Congress of the United States that this Libor bid rigging thing might be a good opportunity to remind the banking industry that it’s election time.  So the House Banking Committee, whose members are placed there to assure privileged access to Wall Street campaign

Hunger Games: Are We Watching America in the 21st Century?

When I first saw the movie Hunger Games a couple months back, I was mesmerized by the story for the first two hours but then shocked in the last five minutes. That’s when I realized that it was headed towards a totally preposterous ending. I hadn’t seen/read reviews, nor did

George Will, Climate Scientist, Explains the Weather: It’s Just Summer

Okay, let’s see. half of Colorado is on fire, threatening hundreds of homes, communities, the Air Force Academy. There’s a massive drought going on across much of US; corn fields are dying in several states. Thousands of high temperature records were broken just this month. Unprecedented freak storms ripped through many parts of the US, taking out power systems and causing local blackouts for days. Dozens of people die in the heat. With the blackouts now into their second week, there is a human catastrophe going on in many areas, including West Virginia.

So it was about time that the host on ABC’s This Week asked its astute panel whether this might have some connection to global climate change. Ya think? Here, for all time, is the dumbest answer this year, delivered by the erudite and witty George Will, who couldn’t resist making fun of an unfolding catastrophe. Except he was probably serious.

The explanation: “Summer.”

ABC This Week, Terry Moran Stage Worst Talking Heads Show of the Year

I turned on ABC’s This Week to see if the host could get anything useful out of Governors Jindal of La. and O’Malley of Maryland. I wasn’t expecting much, but it’s usually interesting to see what each party thinks the most helpful spin is. What we got is a confirmation that America is now saddled with the two worst political parties we’ve had in my lifetime. Both men were awful, but host Terry Moran was even worse.

New York Times Editors Mangle Story on False GOP Medicare Claims

Jackie Calmes is a decent reporter, and except for two disconnected paragraphs added, I suspect, by her dishonest editors, she wrote a worthwhile story for today’s New York Times. Calmes reports on the numerous misleading and outright false GOP claims about the changes to Medicare enacted in the Affordable Care Act.
