Dr. Peter Rhee, trauma surgeon and medical director at University of Arizona University Medical Center hospital spoke at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time Tuscon. Rhee said that Congresswoman Giffords is not deceased, is now through surgery and in critical condition as of the time of the press conference.

We are interrupting our usual Saturday Art programming to provide an update here on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others at the Tuscon, Arizona Safeway grocery store event who were shot by an unnamed gunman this morning.
NPR reported approximately 11:00 a.m. local time that Rep. Giffords and six others have died of their injuries. Please watch for updates as there are conflicting reports about the attack and the condition of those shot today.

We could comfort ourselves with the idea that this bankster-created economic crisis could have been far worse, had it not been for the success of the social safety net we’ve created since the Great Depression.
