When the nuclear engineer from an identical plant states there’s any possibility of such a catastrophe, Washington, we have a problem. Chernobyl’s contamination settled upon people and nations thousands of miles from that reactor’s location. How far would “Chernobyl on steroids” travel? And where are the up to 20 years of reactor no 1 spent fuel rods that could cause such a problem?
The Fukushima reactor building that exploded March 12 is one of a series of identical General Electric reactors constructed in Japan and the US. In this reactor design, the used nuclear fuel rods are stored in pools of water at the top of the reactor building. These “spent” rods are
While Libyan Freedom fighters chant ‘Where is Obama’, Pres sends Marines to capture Bradley Manning’s clothes
Reuters reports Libyan freedom fighters attacking Gaddafi’s troops are calling for Obama’ military support: As the battle raged, fighters chanted: “Where is Obama! We want a no-fly zone!“, referring to the imposition of a no-fly zone which is being considered by the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama among other
Just as our chronically constipated Senate bore down and pushed out the second bolus of the Food Safety Bill upon the megacorps that have been impatiently swimming about for it, the ever so apolitical impresarios at Homeland Security fed CBS a steaming heap of fresh scoop.
Yesterday Alexander Cockburn reminded us of the news Israel Shamir and Paul Bennett broke at Counterpunch in September. Julian Assange’s chief accuser in Sweden has a significant history of work with anti-Castro groups, at least one of which is US funded and openly supported by a former CIA agent convicted
I don’t have to agree with Christian Scientists on treatment to agree with them on diagnosis. America’s post WWII foreign policy and the State Department employees who implemented that policy have done more evil and more mass murder than any post war “leaders” save Stalin and Mao. Anything that destroys
Westlands deadbeat millionaire drought “victims” send subsidized ag water to LA while LA billionaire’s firm sucks rural Californians’ wells dry
No wonder billionaire Resnick and the Westlands deadbeat millionaires were in such a hurry to see the Water Bond on the ballot. We pay for the public works project they’ll use to take our subsidized ag water and turn around and sell it back to California’s cities at a huge mark-up. And the same taxpayers who pay off the water bond will pay higher rates for their water.
What’s not to like? Ask Ana Lopez’ ex-neighbors – the people who had to abandon their now worthless homes when the Kern Water District and billionaire Kenneth Resnick’s Water Bank pumped away their aquifers.
Hey, buddy – you want to buy subsidized public water? I can get it for you cheap…..
Neo Feudalism On The Bayou: Well-Connected DC Attorney/BP Payout Czar Decrees Gulf Clean-up Fishermen Work For Free
No wonder payout czar Feinberg’s a succeessful well-connected insider DC attorney. He’s so slick he’s decreed the fisherman who contracted to work cleaning up the poisons BP spews will have their income from that work deducted. From what? From what ever settlement he may award them for damages…damages from BP’s oil apocalypse.
Yep, Czar Feinberg, in his generosity, demands the fisherman cleaning up BP’s posions from our public waters do their work for free. Such an opportunity! Shock Doctrine, meet Czar Doctrine: Feinberg’s gone neo-feudal on the Gulf. This Czar’s using the job Obama and BP’s top man picked him for to get back to his roots….in 16th centruy Russia. Is that where the President hopes to bring the wounded Gulf?
Is this Texas investment banker telling us why Lisa Jackson’s EPA became BP’s poisoner’s accomplice?
“By sinking and dispersing the oil, BP can amortize the cost of the cleanup over the next 15 years or so, as tar balls continue to roll up on the beaches, rather than dealing with the issue now by removing the oil from the water with the proper equipment,” McCallister testified earlier this week before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. “As a financial adviser, I understand financial engineering and BP’s desire to stretch out its costs of remediating the oil spill in the Gulf. By managing the cleanup over a period of many years, BP is able to minimize the financial damage as opposed to a huge expenditure in a period of a few years.”
While I’m pleased to see Michael wants to welcome Jane Hamsher and other progressives to the Sierra Club under his watch, I’m waiting for Michael to do what any good host does before he throws a housewarming party: clean the house.
