Help Shadowproof Greenlight Great Stories This Month

Shadowproof recently published reporting from Natascha Elena Uhlmann on how the Trump Administration empowered Border Patrol to disrupt the asylum process and endanger migrants.

We were able to publish Natascha’s critical reporting thanks to our readers, who donated $5, $20, $50, or more to fund our freelance budget.

Many talented journalists like Natascha send us pitches each week, but we can only greenlight what we have the resources to fund.

Can you donate $20 so we can publish more important journalism at Shadowproof?

Jared Ware and Miles Quarles produced a feature on political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal and the struggle against Larry Krasner, a progressive district attorney in Philadelphia. It detailed how activists successfully pressured Krasner to back down and allow Mumia to argue for his freedom in court.

Our readers also made it possible to publish essential reporting from Michael Arria on a group of centrist Democrats, who introduced legislation to undermine efforts to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Their plan would secure lower wages for employees in rural areas.

We were able to publish Michael Sainato’s coverage of labor organizing among injured former General Motors employees, who have been protesting at the U.S. Embassy against their firings for years. And we published documents obtained by Camille Fassett that show Detroit police purchased surveillance technology that lets them actively track people’s locations through their cell phones.

These donations are vital to our ability to give journalists a platform for telling stories that matter and deserve more attention.

Shadowproof is a rather low-budget operation; only a small percentage of your donation goes to overhead like server bills and email accounts. This way, we maximize the amount of money we pay writers.

Can you help us pay more talented journalists this month?

Please donate $20 or more to fund freelance reporting at Shadowproof.

By the way, the more members we get, the less we’ll have to post these fundraising pitches.

When you invest a few dollars in our stability, we give you access to some fun perks that we hope will deepen your connection with our work. For example:

$5/month gets you a Shadowproof tote bag and access to our member chatroom.

$9/month gets you all of the above AND access to our weekly newsletter featuring interviews with our writers, arts & culture essays, and more.

Our member chatroom gives us a great opportunity to meet the people our publication depends on to survive and to learn which stories matter to them most.

Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting our work! We could not do this without readers like you.
