We Invite You to Become a Member & Support Shadowproof

Last month, Jane Hamsher closed the well-known and widely respected Firedoglake, and Brian Sonenstein and I were given the opportunity to launch a new media organization called Shadowproof.

We ensured Firedoglake would continue to have a positive legacy by hosting the entire FDL archive at Shadowproof’s website.

On September 21, 2015, we will close FDL membership accounts and recurring payments. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at community@shadowproof.com.

If you were an FDL member, your support has always been a deep well of security and inspiration to all of us as we’ve done our work. We greatly appreciate the choice you made to contribute to FDL, and we now encourage you to make the choice to support Shadowproof.

I invite you to become a Shadowproof member for $10 per month or more to help keep a tradition of excellent independent journalism and community activism alive.

Here’s why we think you should become a Shadowproof member:

The purpose of the Shadowproof membership program is to provide a stable system of financial support for our work each month, which will allow us to pay talented, out-of-work and struggling journalists and build an ideal home for their work.

Proceeds from your subscription will fund our reporting projects, beginning with our battle with the Treasury Department over emails between Hank Paulson and AIG during the bailouts. We’re appealing their response to a two-year old Freedom of Information Act request that there are no emails between Secretary Paulson and AIG during the bailouts, especially since there exists ample evidence to the contrary.

We expect obtaining the emails to be a long fight. Your membership will cover our filing fees and legal expenses as we pursue these important documents from the Treasury Department.

Members will shape our work in forums, where they can engage our staff directly an provide feedback. They also will participate in discussions with inspirational voices and grassroots leaders on issues ranging from mass incarceration to mass surveillance—and beyond.

In the future, we will organize volunteer programs directly related to the communities at the center of our reporting. Our goal with Shadowproof is to cultivate a bold new community for movement-first journalism that challenges power and promotes sustainable practices for new media organizations.

Please be a part of this vision by giving what you can and subscribing as a monthly member for $10 or more.

Thank you,
