I am a host of Late Late Night FDL music and cartoon posts in addition to spending most evenings behind the FDL backstage curtain flipping levers. Used to be a practicing heterosexual but now it appears that I am just a consultant. Avid reader since teaching myself how to read when four. Navy brat and first born so always thinking of the consequences. Double Irish so I usually got caught. Turned my misspent youth around and became that scary thing in your rear view mirror. Retired from the Fremont (California) Police Department after 24 years of sworn and non-sworn duties, including Patrol and the Crimes Against Persons Unit. Currently living on the North Oregon Coast with Token, cutest dog in the world (10 lb category), where I enjoy taking non-crime scene photographs, writing at my own blog, TwoTonGreenBlog, and working backstage at Firedoglake.

It’s okay. I’m an officially retired person now; more time for errands. Went to the gym this evening.

If I’m allowed a plug my Joe Wilson e-book (9,000 words, so it’s an e-book, not a real book), it will be out on July 6, the 12th anniversary of his NYT op -ed piece. Website: plamegate.weebly.com

We have been lucky, not too dry so fire danger is low.
Up north of us is where the Funny river fire was last year. Folks are all over that area right now waiting for more rain so as to harvest the morels.
I can just see the TV show now — Mushroom hunters of Alaska— ohh the drama.

  49. Suzanne
    June 14, 2015 at 2:02 am

we’ve already had several smaller wildfires this week – one out in the gorge blew up really fast with the wind. gonna be a bad fire season. we are very dry

  50. June 14, 2015 at 2:02 am

*heh* They certainly have enough of those Alaska shows nowadays, eh…? 😉

  53. bluewombat
    June 14, 2015 at 2:08 am

You’re very gracious, Suz. This e-book is much shorter (about a tenth the length) and took less time (5 or 6 months instead of 5 or 6 years), so I feel a little sheepish about using the word “book.”

The alarm clocklessness of my existence is good — my body loves knowing that most days it can get up whenever it pleases, that there’s no command performance. It’s not a be-all and end-all: if I’m feeling out of sorts, that still affects my sleep. But it beats the alternative.

Hey Mr Tut glad yer out early. Yes the M hunters come to these year old burns by the hundreds. They set up camps and it all gets territorial.
There are buyers stationed at strategic locals and that get’s competitive.

Who is paying what on a daily basis. It is all quite the game. And at the end of the day the mushrooms fly to some restaurant some where and are eaten the next day.

*heh* I’d laughed when Anthony Bourdain, who just had a CNN special here in the Isles, had quipped ascerbically… ‘Of all the places I’ve been, Hawai’i is the least crazy’…! 😉

    Mark Twain agreed with him…

The native language is soft and liquid and flexible and in every way efficient and satisfactory–till you get mad; then there you are; there isn’t anything in it to swear with. Good judges all say it is the best Sunday language there is. But then all the other six days in the week it just hangs idle on your hands; it isn’t any good for business and you can’t work a telephone with it. Many a time the attention of the mssionaries has been called to this defect, and they are always promising they are going to fix it; but no, they go fooling along and fooling along and nothing is done.

This is the most magnificent, balmy atmosphere in the world–ought to take dead men out of grave.

For me its balmy airs are always blowing, its summer seas flashing in the sun; the pulsing of its surf is in my ear; I can see its garlanded crags, its leaping cascades, its plumy palms drowsing by the shore, its remote summits floating like islands above the cloud-rack; I can feel the spirit of its woody solitudes, I hear the plashing of the brooks; in my nostrils still lives the breath of flowers that perished twenty years ago.

    What’s not to like, eh…? 😉
