The lack of a post today would give some of us a sad, so here’s one to use for conversation we all enjoy.

I've blogged at The Seminal for about two years, was at cabdrollery for around three. I live in N.TX., worked for Sen.Yarborough of TX after graduation from Wellesley, went on to receive award in playwriting, served on MD Arts Council after award, then managed a few campaigns in MD and served as assistant to a member of the MD House for several years, have worked in legal offices and written for magazines, now am retired but addicted to politics, and join gladly in promoting liberals and liberal policies.

Morning, folks, have a friend in Houston who’s had to stay at the hospital where she works, no one can get in to replace the staff that’s been there all night.
    Times are weird.

  • Chris Maukonen

    Austin is under water too.

  • Beverly Lawson

Thanks for the post; I was missing our crowd. Austin had record rain level…flooding on major street, Lamar Blvd. with lots of damage…..several deaths mostly in surrounding areas. At least some draught relief……but still a mess.

  • Ruth

yikes, you stay out of that, too, this has been hitting Crane-Station up at the Red River, for awhile, also.

  • Ruth

I have to run an errand, so am going to be out for most of the a.m., hope you all get through.

    Greetings All!

Just a quick drive by, as real life has intruded on cyberlife again. I’m likely going to be scarce this week. On positive notes, the wife’s stitches have been successfully removed and there is no sign of rejection of the pain pump. This afternoon I get to go have Gizmo’s stitches removed from her being spayed.

I apologize for no Monday post, but I ended up far away from any connectivity on very short notice. If nobody has taken Friday yet, I will. Things should be back together by then.

Boxturtle (Over 200 emails in my work box. Don’t those folks know there was a holiday?)

Reports from Texas are scary. And Texas will still be considered in a drought even after these rains.

I find it interesting that the states with the highest degree of climate change denial are also the states that are going to get hammered the worst by it.

Boxturtle (Gov. Scott of Florida, I’m thinking of you)

Knowing Austin, I suspect this will be an excuse for a wet tshirt contest.

    Morning Ruth,

Seems comments are being censored this morning. Must be just a little to truthful for those that demand compliance?

Abundant condensation, precipitation and wet t-shits???

    Hell Yes!

  • oldhippiejan

The weather person says it’s supposed to rain here today, if not will have to water my posies. Other than that, don’t plan on doing much, not feeling all that great. Having so many problems with my innards, Tums tend to be one of my 4 basic food groups. Long story short I took too many of them Saturday, have felt bad since. I guess that dosage amount is on there for a reason. oldhippiejan

I just checked backstage, there’s nothing pending. But I’m not sure if my backstage monitors are correct since we moved to disqus. I have no power I’m aware of over Disqus.

“You want the truth ” “You can’t handle the truth !”

    [hehe..just could not resist. :-)]

Morning all. Lamenting loss of life in Texas and OK. Lamenting mean spirited comments from purported leftish types on certain other sites. Climate change will not observe any supposed distinctions. The billionaires will go down too.

Got Privacy Badger to work on Firefox. Got Ghostery for Safari but I must switch to Firefox or upgrade my system. Can’t afford to upgrade the old software were I to do so. Need to have my brake pads done today, they were down to 2 mm four months ago. It is going on plastic. Living under the FPL is quite a trick.

Can’t seem to write complete sentences today.

  • Alice X

I am sorry you are not feeling well. If misery loves company I’m not feeling all that great myself. One more day of a three month prescription program for me. Had side effects but they could have been worse. They want me to take another prescription. I am very suspicious of the entire medical system.

  • oldhippiejan

I am equally suspicious, but what the hell ya gonna do. Can’t live with them, and you may well live longer without them. I try and stick to a rule of thumb. that if a medication hasn’t been on the market 30 years, then I don’t want it; Thus begins the head butting, they know every damn thing about every damn thing. With an OTC drug, I have no one to blame but myself. oldhippiejan

“84.125 years is the average billionaire life expectancy for 2014

    MEASURES OF AMERICA: 2011

    LIFE EXPECTANCY HISPANIC AMERICAN
United States 83.4883.48 years vs 84.125 less than one years difference but these are the 2011 Hispanic numbers the most recent I could find vs the 2014 numbers reported by Forbes” http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/05/17/1385421/-2014-billionaire-life-expectancy Billionaires are going down already since they barely outlive the group least likely to have health insurance despite all their money.

  • ThingsComeUndone

I hope your Wife is ok.

  • Ruth

there’s a stomach malady going around here, and I had a very mild version but am hearing from some with vicious upsets. Hopefully it will go by quickly and we can all recover.

  • Ruth

Sorry if that’s happening, and I really don’t know anything that would cause it. As far as my experience with disqus so far, there’s nothing that can’t go up and only a nasty threat would bring in any moderators that I know of.

  • http://www.hudechrome.com Lawrence Hudetz

Those numbers are curious, leading to this conclusion, yet suspicious.

The cardiologist who treats me says that the “life extension”, as she put it, for the various treatments for Angina show up only for bypass, and that is relatively short. Yet, without these other therapies, early death can result, given that they occur in people much younger than that average age.

Isn’t it strange to see that, according to the stat quoted, if we shut down medicine except for trauma treatment, we could save a huge amount of money and still live long.

    Living well is another matter.

  • JamesJoyce

Comment was not a threat except for those it exposed for what they are, by the comment.

“Truth” is increasingly not a relevant consideration in America…..

All this, JJ … just as the Patriot Act is set to perspire … Obama’s “Free Trade” / Fast Track might well sink, and partisan bickering of the most belligerently mindless sort gears up to ensure that “more-of-the-same” prevails, politically in 2016, even though no honest nor genuine “electoral” solution to, or deliverance, from, our collective, worsening, plight is possible, by design and intent … quite up that proverbial “creek without a paddle” … all in all … a perfect BS storm gathers on the near-distant horizon …. “looming”, as a political analyst at FDL was wont, once upon a time, to say … interesting days ahead, no doubt.
