Late Night FDL: Love Is Your Name

Steven Tyler has jumped genres…

Love Is Your Name, the first country single Steven Tyler, begins with the downward strum of an autoharp.

The stringed instrument, rarely heard on country records these days, is often associated with the Carter Family’s Mother Maybelle Carter and her daughter June Carter Cash. For the Aerosmith frontman, though, there’s another association: The Lovin’ Spoonful.

“When I was a kid, I used to go down and see those guys; they had a huge hit with Do You Believe in Magic,” Tyler says. With other songs, most notably Nashville Cats, the ’60s folk-rock group helped young rock fans of that generation think differently about country music.

Tyler, who has signed with Nashville’s Big Machine Label Group to record a country solo album, says he was already into the music. The singer’s lifelong infatuation with country music began when he stole the Everly Brothers singles that belonged to his older sister. Around that same time, he turned a long wire into a radio antenna up an apple tree near his house and began picking up the signal from a country station in Ft. Wayne, Ind. “That’s how I grew up listening to all that stuff,” says the singer, who counts the Everlys, Patsy Cline and Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks among his early country favorites.

The harmony-rich Love Is Your Name doesn’t sound quite like anything else on country radio at the moment, nor does it sound like what Aerosmith fans might expect from the group’s singer. “It’s a little bit between Steven Tyler and Mumford & Sons and the Everly Brothers,” Tyler says…

What’s on your mind tonite…?

Thought I’d check in under my prior FDL name.

Don’t know what the new “improvement” is, but now the Comment box is only displaying what I type one line at a time. A bit too unbearable to endure for long.

Keep an eye on the approach. The localizer and glide slope can be tricky to get a fix on sometimes. 🙂

So while the Brits are eager to exacerbate the Libyan mass exodus… British troops could be deployed on the ground in Libya

They ‘opt out’… EU plans migrant quotas, Britain opts out

I fully concur… The UK’s rejection of the EU plan for refugees is shameful

I have none. On my phone screen, I can only see who a commenter is replying to if the commenter’s name is 6-7 characters long, and then I can only see the first 1-2 characters of the name of the person being replied to. Forget having a clue to which comment a reply is to.

Disqust is not ready for folks using mobile small screens, IMO. With the caveat that this FDL debacle is the first time I’ve ever used Disqust.

The Comment box at the top now appears only one line in depth. When I type a line and reach the end of the box, the first line typed rolls up, leaving me with a new blank box only one line in depth.

If I want to see what I’ve typed, I can only view it one line at a time.

Only happens with top Comment box. This reply box I’m typing on now will let me see THREE lines at a time, but it’s a narrower box, so each line is only 4-5 words long.

This is a mess. An epic mess.

Kids and grandkids are doing great; thanks for asking. We actually had rain on a couple of nights down here in the ‘nard last week….. but many of my plants are really screaming from thirst. I drove by Cachuma Lake this afternoon on my way home….. disaster! I don’t know if it will ever come back. I also saw deer on the hillsides while driving north last week….. never saw them before. I wonder if they are also suffering from the drought. We are in for some interesting times, I fear.

And, too, I had a phone message from one of my grandsons when I got home from work in Santa Maria, “Hi, Grammy, I had sardines for dinner.” I’m still laughing. Yeah, and I have to go to Let’s Do Evil’s “PlayStore” (what a *cute* name!) to get them, which has eff’d up my AdBlockPlus every time ever since the Silicon Valley G-men kicked ABP out of their “PlayStore.” Then must reinstall ABP.

I also hate being locked into so-called “apps.” Must exit them to fire up my browser to surf the net. Not to mention having to give almost every app “permission” to access everything on my phone – camera, mike, contact lists, ad nauseum.

  53. May 13, 2015 at 11:56 pm

I had never heard of them, but I was drawn in by their appearance on some arts channel. Amazing. I’ve been ‘gifted’ over the years by just letting the TV open the world to me. Little Stevie Wonder….. on a trip through Arizona. Paula Poundstone while taking my 3 kids on vacation through southern Illinois/Hannibal, Missouri. Sometimes stuff just comes up and is so amazing that one cannot turn away. Gift!!!!

Well, bb, there is still a touch of it……..Lake Cachuma is a mere shadow of its former lakeness. I was stunned. I drive by there maybe quarterly….. never trust that the Pass will actually save me time going south……..but today I was saddened by how little of the lake is still there. People were still in the campgrounds. Don’t know how bad it will get…. but it kind of feels like the canary in the coal mine. Not happy. Not at all.

What works for me to properly sort comments is to refresh the screen frequently. I personally prefer Sorting by Oldest.

As for unresponsive managemet, never forget that we are the product – from the content we provide for free to the even more lucrative trackers (cookies) that report everywhere we’ve been, for how long, etc., etc., back to FDL and now Disqust.

boy, are you right ‘ bout all the crap that fires up on android. i’ve taken to “stop” on running apps and go to ” force stop” play services when done AND then turning off the machine but you can’t if you’re using as a phone. this is a nook with micro sdcard. might look in apps store for “apps killer” or “apps stop”

unless you can turn off phone, you’re stuck as apps fire right up again. google was nsa’s trojan horse: free gmail, free storage, free maps, free operating system to phone mfgs to provide the device to track you

    1:39edt 17ma

by the way, you can uninstall browsers: press & hold icon and option to uninstall should come up OR go to drawer, installed apps, and 1:46scroll to browser and click select uninstall
