Late Night FDL: Love Is Your Name
Steven Tyler has jumped genres…
Love Is Your Name, the first country single Steven Tyler, begins with the downward strum of an autoharp.
The stringed instrument, rarely heard on country records these days, is often associated with the Carter Family’s Mother Maybelle Carter and her daughter June Carter Cash. For the Aerosmith frontman, though, there’s another association: The Lovin’ Spoonful.
“When I was a kid, I used to go down and see those guys; they had a huge hit with Do You Believe in Magic,” Tyler says. With other songs, most notably Nashville Cats, the ’60s folk-rock group helped young rock fans of that generation think differently about country music.
Tyler, who has signed with Nashville’s Big Machine Label Group to record a country solo album, says he was already into the music. The singer’s lifelong infatuation with country music began when he stole the Everly Brothers singles that belonged to his older sister. Around that same time, he turned a long wire into a radio antenna up an apple tree near his house and began picking up the signal from a country station in Ft. Wayne, Ind. “That’s how I grew up listening to all that stuff,” says the singer, who counts the Everlys, Patsy Cline and Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks among his early country favorites.
The harmony-rich Love Is Your Name doesn’t sound quite like anything else on country radio at the moment, nor does it sound like what Aerosmith fans might expect from the group’s singer. “It’s a little bit between Steven Tyler and Mumford & Sons and the Everly Brothers,” Tyler says…
What’s on your mind tonite…?

Can I post? Am I in?
I posted! I posted! I’m back from Disqus exile! And I still have my name!
Aloha, LN pups…! Tomorrow morn I’m headed off isle for the first time in about five years…! 😉
Aloha, bw…! You’re back home…! 😉
How’s your Mom and LA…?
WOHO !!
I responded to your post, but it vanished. I’ll try again.
LA is OK, as is my mother. Am on a glide path to retirement next month.
Uh-oh…We don’t seem to have numbered posts anymore…This may take some getting used to…
Thought I’d check in under my prior FDL name.
Don’t know what the new “improvement” is, but now the Comment box is only displaying what I type one line at a time. A bit too unbearable to endure for long.
Keep an eye on the approach. The localizer and glide slope can be tricky to get a fix on sometimes. 🙂
Am not entirely sure I have a fix on Disqus; the approach to retirement, after some clear air turbulence, appears to be going more smoothly now.
The posts also don’t appear to be coming in in chronological order. What, I say, what the heck?
Welcome to Disqus, brought to you by FDL.
Welcome to disqus, bw…! Not a big fan myself, but, it is what it is these daze…!
*heh* Smooth sailing, mi amigoes…! 😉
*heh* Ya owe me a brewski, TW…! 😉
With my Eldest’s connuptials impending soon…

I’ll offer a [semi] useful reply. In the upper right hand corner there is a drop down for the sort order.Click sort by newest. For chronological order.
Interesting. Disqus did not insert the video on this.
Disqus is acting the strangest yet for me tonight.
What do you expect from people who don’t even know how to spell “Discuss”?
Congratulations on same, Tut.
Ha! Don’t you owe me one, CT, for beating you by seconds? 😉
Meanwhile, in news from across the Pond…
So while the Brits are eager to exacerbate the Libyan mass exodus… British troops could be deployed on the ground in Libya
They ‘opt out’… EU plans migrant quotas, Britain opts out
I fully concur… The UK’s rejection of the EU plan for refugees is shameful
That it is, TW…! 8-(
Omg, I’m in for the first time in months?
I have none. On my phone screen, I can only see who a commenter is replying to if the commenter’s name is 6-7 characters long, and then I can only see the first 1-2 characters of the name of the person being replied to. Forget having a clue to which comment a reply is to.
Disqust is not ready for folks using mobile small screens, IMO. With the caveat that this FDL debacle is the first time I’ve ever used Disqust.
??
Sorry, bb…! How’s your bay doing tonite…?
Compassionate conservatism ? ?
*heh* Ya doth dare, m’dear…! 😉
Aloha, stranger…! Looong time no see…! 😉
Actually for me it shows who, but not which one if more than one.
*heh* I’m amazed even, tuez…! 😉

Disqust. I like it.
That did the trick. Thank you.
Wow, so good to see you here! I’m dearie/diane, and you are my friend!
I will admit though that I like the nested comments mostly, it can get real confusing when the diqussion gets heated.
Aloha, Dearie…! It seems we’re only missing Suz tonite…! 😉
We’re trying to do so, bb…! 😉
Do I ‘get’ that eCAHN is not going with the change? I will miss her spunk, for sure!
I’m totally bummed, Dearie…! 8-(
The Comment box at the top now appears only one line in depth. When I type a line and reach the end of the box, the first line typed rolls up, leaving me with a new blank box only one line in depth.
If I want to see what I’ve typed, I can only view it one line at a time.
Only happens with top Comment box. This reply box I’m typing on now will let me see THREE lines at a time, but it’s a narrower box, so each line is only 4-5 words long.
This is a mess. An epic mess.
That’s in your disqus preferences. A clickable/unclicable option. I think you have to go to your disqus account. Even if you logged in via facebook or something like me.
Change is hard. Yep. Some won’t want to. I am old school FDL and have been through enough painful changes that I can take one more….. even if it wasn’t easy.
How are you accessing FDL TW ? Via a PC/Laptop or Andriod/iPhone etc ?
So, anyway, it’s lovely on the south central coast of California…. and I”m hopeful that you all are enjoying good weather even if we are all going to be either dried out or flooded out. We’re in for the crazy season of election exception….. pass the popcorn. I mentioned to my neocon twin brother that there were 20 crazies in the Klown Kar………..and to his credit, he laughed out loud.
FYI there are android apps for disqus and wordpress, if that helps at all.
Well I did something, I’m not sure what. But when I came back all the song links opened.
BIZARRE !
@ bigbrother
I think it will help many of us if we start replies as I just did this one. Too sad we don’t have numbers to help us even more.
Really miss the old FDL commenting system, but I gather Disqus is more profitable – and FDL is a for-profit corp after all.
PS: I was scrolling through the TeeVee the other night and stumbled upon Alabama Shakes. Just Wow! I don’t know them, but I couldn’t scroll away. And they will be at the Santa Barbara Bowl in August. Life just opens up and opens up and opens up…………………
Kids and grandkids are doing great; thanks for asking. We actually had rain on a couple of nights down here in the ‘nard last week….. but many of my plants are really screaming from thirst. I drove by Cachuma Lake this afternoon on my way home….. disaster! I don’t know if it will ever come back. I also saw deer on the hillsides while driving north last week….. never saw them before. I wonder if they are also suffering from the drought. We are in for some interesting times, I fear.
Alabama Shakes ?
Chocolate, Butterscotch or Rocky Roco…Road ?
And, too, I had a phone message from one of my grandsons when I got home from work in Santa Maria, “Hi, Grammy, I had sardines for dinner.” I’m still laughing. I, Danish heritage, love sardines and make sure my daughter always has a couple of tins. Loved that one of my 7 year old twin grandsons really enjoyed some sardines! Grandkids …. love ’em!
Yeah, and I have to go to Let’s Do Evil’s “PlayStore” (what a *cute* name!) to get them, which has eff’d up my AdBlockPlus every time ever since the Silicon Valley G-men kicked ABP out of their “PlayStore.” Then must reinstall ABP.
I also hate being locked into so-called “apps.” Must exit them to fire up my browser to surf the net. Not to mention having to give almost every app “permission” to access everything on my phone – camera, mike, contact lists, ad nauseum.
*heh* I did feature the Shakes about two months ago, Dearie…! With this SNL clip… https://youtu.be/t3Lu1WbImPE
However, I can’t prove it since FDL can’t find it, altho, Google can…!
I had never heard of them, but I was drawn in by their appearance on some arts channel. Amazing. I’ve been ‘gifted’ over the years by just letting the TV open the world to me. Little Stevie Wonder….. on a trip through Arizona. Paula Poundstone while taking my 3 kids on vacation through southern Illinois/Hannibal, Missouri. Sometimes stuff just comes up and is so amazing that one cannot turn away. Gift!!!!
That is why I use my iPhone only to make phone calls and use my PC and laptop for everything else.
The damn shame is that Disqus as implemented at this site makes having a conversation impossible for me.
I’ve a handful of cool links to share, but not until FDL is at least as good as it was the day before “the change.”
True, trying to have a conversation is sketchy, at best. But here we are.
We’ll either figure out how to keep communicating………. or we won’t. Let’s try!
In more EU news… So while Nato Secretary sez… NATO-Russia Cold War? Military, Political Tension Downplayed By Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg
Meanwhile, Nato’s FMs spew this garbage… NATO foreign ministers: Moscow ‘must stop’ destabilization of Ukraine
*heh* I won’t stop, Dearie…! 😉
Luv you, CT, you’re the best. Spunk is as spunk does!
Honestly? I’m about to share my cool links at the two sites I’ve found where former MyFDL posters are now posting their diaries.
The frustration of this piss-poor implementation is getting to me, driving me, like others, away – a feature not a bug, IMO.
Oh, NOW, I get a decent-sized comment box.
What did Nightrider say last night about squeaky wheels?
I share in your frustration, TW, I’ve followed many of the Lake’s denizens, commenters and contributors alike, where ever they may stray…! 😉
Re italics … 🙂
eCAHN was quite the critical thinker, often several steps ahead of me.
@ Dearie
I hate sardines, but I love your story.
I’ve got your number, CT. All this full-time volunteering you’re doing is only because you’re angling for a paid internship. 😉
Well, bb, there is still a touch of it……..Lake Cachuma is a mere shadow of its former lakeness. I was stunned. I drive by there maybe quarterly….. never trust that the Pass will actually save me time going south……..but today I was saddened by how little of the lake is still there. People were still in the campgrounds. Don’t know how bad it will get…. but it kind of feels like the canary in the coal mine. Not happy. Not at all.
Sorry, y’all…! I’m a little distracted with the Better Half’s packing plan, somebody’s gotta straighten it out…! 😉

I prefer to use underlines, myself.
@ bigbrother
What works for me to properly sort comments is to refresh the screen frequently. I personally prefer Sorting by Oldest.
As for unresponsive managemet, never forget that we are the product – from the content we provide for free to the even more lucrative trackers (cookies) that report everywhere we’ve been, for how long, etc., etc., back to FDL and now Disqust.
Who cares what the product thinks and feels?
Disqus is cheap [free ?] and does not require tecks to maintain.
Seems the most problems here are those who browse on the their cell phone. I do not browse on my iPhone, in fact I removed the browser app to free up some space.
Better hit the hey if I want to be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning.
G’night, Chris. Thanks for trying to help me through my frustrations
Be glad you can remove apps, especially a browser. Google won’t let me remove all kinds of crap running in background. I can stop the G-men’s apps, but they instantly auto-restart.
It’s evil, I tell ya, EVIL.
Dayam, It’s a b*otch to catch up in Disqust…! 8-(

Pleasant dreams, cmk…!
*heh* I wish I was paid, TW…! 😉
I think I do, too, given that color no longer seems an option. Underscoring links is pretty standard – Disqust undersores the question “Reload?” after its infamous “Disqus seems to be taking longer than usual.”
We’re in a Disqust World now.

boy, are you right ‘ bout all the crap that fires up on android. i’ve taken to “stop” on running apps and go to ” force stop” play services when done AND then turning off the machine but you can’t if you’re using as a phone. this is a nook with micro sdcard. might look in apps store for “apps killer” or “apps stop”
unless you can turn off phone, you’re stuck as apps fire right up again. google was nsa’s trojan horse: free gmail, free storage, free maps, free operating system to phone mfgs to provide the device to track you

by the way, you can uninstall browsers: press & hold icon and option to uninstall should come up OR go to drawer, installed apps, and 1:46scroll to browser and click select uninstall
