Late Night FDL: Save Me Now

Billy Idol – Save Me Now

Vevo released Billy’s Western-Themed ‘Save Me Now’ Video today…

Billy Idol’s redemption anthem “Save Me Now” gets a fitting tribute with a new video from frequent Muse collaborator Thomas Kirk, featuring a priest, a cop, and (of course) Idol himself…

The California desert is the setting for this story. The archetypal characters head for a roadside confession in a stolen cop car, courtesy of Idol’s longtime guitarist Steve Stevens. โ€œI went for a concept which very much took the lyrics of โ€˜Save Me Nowโ€™ and turned them into a surreal story that I felt was as true to the very visual lyrics as possible,” Kirk says of the video. “I loved the image of a bruised cop and a priest trapped inside a car.โ€

The single, which was co-written by Idol, Twin Shadow, and Greg Kurstin, comes courtesy of Kings & Queens Of The Underground, the British rock legend’s first studio album in almost a decade. He’s currently on the last leg of his world tour to support the album (which was released last fall) with North American dates wrapping June 4, followed by a run of shows in Europe this summer. He’s be back in the U.S. this fall, including stops at Outside Lands and Austin City Limits.

What’s on your mind tonite…?

    Just wanted to share:

US Secretary of State, Lurch Kerry, traveled to Russia, read Putin a long list of grievances that the US has with Russia’s ongoing opposition to everything Obama does around the globe and prevents him from setting a unipolar global agenda, and left โ€” but not before he handed the Russian a basket full of potatoes.

Just in case anyone wonders why the world has turned against the US empire.

This new layout is still broken in Opera. It was fixed for a single day after I pointed it out, but it reverted back to its previous state the next day. I’m guessing someone accidentally overwrote the modifications that fixed the Opera display problem. It’s clear that this problem can be fixed if the right person gets this message…

Greenwald and others debating the pros and cons of upcoming “national security” votes in Congress

    2nd Hour
Chris Hedges discussing his new book, out today, Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt

Fascinating … For one morning FDL looked great for hours on my Android phone; when I later came back, the unreadable mess again.

Sonenstein did reply to my comment in the “Changes” post about this and agreed that FDL did look “difficult to read” on Android, said he’d have it looked into.

When a great Android look appeared for at least a few hours then reverted, I decided that … they are working in it.

Man Who Would Rather Go Blind Than Get Obamacare Now Going Blind

Who should save the sight of an uninsured South Carolina man who canโ€™t afford eye surgery? Thatโ€™s the question the Charlotte Observer asks in a story about a 49-year-old Republican who declined to sign up for Obamacare because he โ€œprided himself on paying his own medical bills,โ€ and is now upset that the Affordable Care Act wonโ€™t bail him out.

Luis Lang, a self-employed handyman from Fort Mill whose clients include the federal government, told the Observer he โ€œknew the act required him to get coverage but he chose not to do so. But he thought help would be available in an emergency,โ€ like the mini-strokes and deteriorating vision he suffered in February.

Russia Invites Greece To Join BRICS Bank As Greek Financial Crisis Deepens

Greece should definitely leave the EU. It makes geopolitical sense. Although it will totally spoil the anagram.

Russia on Monday invited Greece to become the sixth member of the new regional bank for the BRICS countries that include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The invitation was extended during a phone conversation between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a government source.

Tsipras, who reportedly called the invitation a โ€œpleasant surprise,โ€ said Athens would consider the option and formally discuss it with other officials of the BRICS countries at an upcoming economic summit in Russia in June, according to the source.

They’ve offered loans. But no doubt they’ve discussed a number of important oil related issues. For example:

    https://deepresource.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/greek-oil-gas.gif

Greece is sitting on recently discovered oil & gas reserves worth perhaps up to $600 billion, mainly located south of Crete.

But, more importantly, Greece is the final distribution point for Gazprom’s South Stream (now Blue Stream) pipeline, after it was diverted to Turkey last year, due to Bulgaria acting like sanctioning fools. Greece will now control southwest Europe’s gas supply.

    http://www.parapolitika.gr/Media/Default/images/Turkish%20Stream%20MAP%201.jpg

    In fact, construction began today:

Russiaโ€™s Gazprom says launches construction of Turkish Stream gas pipeline

The head of Russian gas producer Gazprom said the firm had taken a decision to start building the Turkish Stream pipeline and that preparations to build the undersea stretch of the pipeline were under way.

โ€œFrom today Gazprom moved to the stage of construction of the sea part of the Turkish Stream pipeline,โ€ Alexei Miller, Gazprom chief executive, said in an interview with Rossiya 24 television.

Gazprom started work on the Turkish Stream pipeline after it abruptly abandoned the South Stream project in December, citing objections from Europe.
