Late Night FDL: Simple Man
R.I.P. Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Bob Burns…
Bob Burns, the original drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd, died Friday night. According to Georgia State Patrol, he was involved in a single car crash in Cartersville, Georgia. He was 64 years old.
Alongside singer Ronnie Van Zant, bassist Larry Junstrom, and guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, Burns formed Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1966. During his time in the band, he appeared on two studio albums, (Pronounced ‘L?h-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd) and Second Helping, the later of which contained seminal hits like “Free Bird”, “Simple Man”, “Gimme Three Steps”, and “Sweet Home Alabama”.
Overwhelmed by touring life, Burns left the band in 1974. He would later reunite with Rossington for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
