House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s Ties To David Duke Deepen

Current House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has been reeling in the aftermath of reports that showed he spoke to a white supremacist organization in 2002. Scalise spoke to the European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO) which was founded by David Duke and explicitly advocates white nationalism and has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Congressman Scalise said he was unaware that the group was racist and was defended by various Republicans including House Speaker John Boehner who said Scalise “made an error in judgement” but still had Boehner’s support.

But later it was learned that Scalise’s contact for the event, Kenny Knight, had a much closer relationship with Scalise than Scalise claimed. Knight serves as David Duke’s political advisor and had not only stayed on friendly terms with Scalise but even contributed to Scalise’s campaign as recently as 2008 with a $1,000 contribution.

Knight and Scalise reportedly maintain a relationship despite Knight’s affiliation with Duke. And now it has been revealed that despite Knight’s earlier claims of not being a member of EURO he served as Treasurer of the group’s previous iteration the National Organization for European American Rights (No Fear) which was forced to change its name due to copyright claims from No Fear Inc. not due to any political transformation or disunity among the membership.

Combine the Knight connection and Scalise’s own statement that he was “like David Duke without the baggage,” and it gets increasingly hard to believe Scalise was unaware of who he was taking to in 2002 or taking money from in 2008.
