Late Night FDL: Trouble Me

10,000 Maniacs – Trouble Me

10,000 Maniacs are working on a new album, Twice Told Tales…

10,000 Maniacs are going in a different direction for their ninth studio album and their first with Cleopatra Records.

Twice Told Tales, set for an April release, is a full-length collection of traditional British Isles folk songs that will be given the 10,000 Maniacs touch.

This new project digs deep into the historical roots of not just the Maniacs’ own sound but Western music generally, and finds the band at the very top of their musical, melodic game.

The current members of 10,000 Maniacs include founding group members Dennis Drew (keyboards), Steve Gustafson (bass) and John Lombardo (guitar), Jerry Augustyniak (drums) who joined during the band’s third year, Mary Ramsey (vocals), who replaced Natalie Merchant in 1993, and Jeff Erickson (guitar) who joined in 2001. Lombardo has returned to the group for the new album after having quit in 2002.

What’s left out of that article is that they’re crowdsourcing the album…

10,000 Maniacs are attempting something we’ve never done before. This spring we will record an entire album of Traditional Folk Songs from the British Isles, titled Twice Told Tales. And we’re doing it with our old friend and original Maniac, John Lombardo.

Go to this link WWW.PLEDGEMUSIC.COM/PROJECTS/TWICETOLDTALES and you can become our collaborators, our executive producers. By making a pledge you get exclusive access to a seat at the table where you can listen, observe, comment and interact with the band and our online pledgemusic community as we recreate the music that inspired us and became an essential component of what became the 10,000 Maniacs sound. Along the way we’ll provide exclusive songs, videos and cool fun promotional products that only you and fellow pledgers will have access to. You’ll see and hear us in our Jamestown rehearsal space, recording basic tracks at Tarbox Road Studios, doing vocal and instrumental overdubs with Producer Armand Petri and generally goofing around. And you’ll be the first to receive the new album, TWICE TOLD TALES. The album you helped us create.

What’s on your mind tonite…?
