Video Shows ISIS Getting Weapons Meant For Kurds, Pentagon To Investigate

The Department of Defense has launched an investigation into its airdrop program for Syria after a video surfaced on youtube showing ISIS fighters going through an airdrop package meant for Kurdish forces. The airdrop occurred around the contested city of Kobani and included weapons intended to help Kurdish fighters defend the city from ISIS. Instead, the weapons were captured by ISIS and will likely be used against Kurdish forces.

US Central Command offered a description of what is in the airdrop packages that matches what the video shows – weapons, ammunition, and medical supplies. In the video the ISIS forces seem particularly interested in the grenades of which numerous containers are filled with. Pentagon press secretary Admiral John Kirby acknowledged that it was possible the video was authentic and said DoD was investigating.

Officials are trying to determine whether a bundle of weapons intended for Kurdish forces has ended up in the hands of the Islamic State terrorist group, according to the Pentagon. A video surfaced Tuesday on YouTube that seemed to show Islamic State fighters looking through boxes of weapons that were airdropped by the U.S. military in the vicinity of the Syrian town of Kobani, where Kurdish fighters are under siege by the militants. In the video, a parachute is attached to the bundle of supplies.

“We’re still taking a look at [the video] and assessing the validity of it. So I honestly don’t know if that was one of the [bundles] dropped, and whether … the contents of it are, in fact, in the hands of ISIL,” Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby told reporters, using an acronym to refer to the Islamic State. “They are certainly … the kinds of material that was dropped … so it’s not out of the realm of the possible in that regard,” he said.

So here we go again, yet another example of the US unwittingly providing support for ISIS. Not only has the US-supplied Iraqi National Army been ISIS’ greatest unwilling arms dealer with USAID supplies helping to sustain ISIS’ war effort, but now the US military is literally dropping weapons out of the sky to ISIS.

At some point is someone in the US imperial establishment going to recognize that the flood the zone arms dealing strategy in Iraq and Syria is not working out too well? How much of a threat would ISIS be without US military equipment?
