Win a Copy of Clark Stoeckley’s ‘United States vs. Private Chelsea Manning’ & Join Us for His Book Salon on Sunday
Update: This Book Salon is Sunday, June 15, 2014
You may know Clark Stoeckley from the WikiLeaks Truck that he has been known to drive. But, if you are familiar at all with his work, you know that he was present at most of Chelsea Manning’s court martial to draw court sketches of proceedings.
The book combines his sketches with excerpts from transcripts of the court martial to provide the story of what happened. Each page moves through the pretrial hearings, which very few media organizations covered even though they were important. It then gets into the trial, which began about a year ago.
WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange wrote in the preface, “The drawings are expressive and haunting. The court transcripts come alive on the page. They bear powerful witness to the trial of America’s foremost political prisoner.”
Stoeckley received some help from Somerset Bean, another artist who has spent a lot of time creating graphics for Manning, Assange, WikiLeaks, etc.
The sketches drawn by Stoeckley were frequently used here at Firedoglake when I was at Fort Meade reporting on the court martial. Without them, just about every post would have been Manning’s military portrait.
We’re giving away a copy of the book. You can enter here:
Voting will close at 4 pm ET on Saturday, before the Book Salon chat begin. A winner will be announced during the Salon.
