Some good news from the Lone Star State: Denton, Texas, a college town north of Ft. Worth, came one step closer to banning fracking within city limits after the city council accepted an activist petition by Frack Free Denton. From WFAA 8 in Dallas:
A public hearing will be held in mid-July. After that, the Council can vote for or against the ordinance. Voters will likely have the final say if the ordinance is rejected by the Council.
‘It’s been a long hard climb for us to get here,’ said Sharon Wilson, one of the main petition organizers.
Last month, organizers submitted a petition with nearly 2,000 signatures. The City Secretary’s office ratified more than 600 of them last week.
‘We’ve actually gotten a lot folks on Twitter and Facebook around the world sending us notes of solidarity,’ said Adam Briggle, one of the petition supporters.
