Turmoil in Ukraine

– Russia has control of Crimea, U.S. officials say, and John Kerry will be heading out to Kiev to show support for Ukraine

– The Federal Assembly (the parliament) in Russia has given the O.K. to Putin to use Russian troops to protect Russian interests

– Obama and Putin talked on the phone. Obama stressed consequences if Russian troops weren’t removed, while Putin pledged to help Russian civilians in Ukraine threatened by far-right forces supported by the government

– U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon:  We need calm dialogue on the situation developing in the Ukraine

– Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government is begging the U.N. Security Council for an emergency meeting to stop the “aggression” of Russia

– The recently appointed head of the navy in Ukraine pledged to protect Crimea only and a Ukrainian navy flagship defected to the Russian army

– Secretary of State John Kerry: The West is prepared to implement sanctions against Russia 

– Acting Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk states the country is on “the verge of disaster

– Ukraine is now getting ready for war with Russia

International Politics


– Just cheering a “democratic” coup in any country is typical of the imperialistic nature of the West

– The visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will test the relationship between the U.S. and Israel

– The G-7 said they will suspend their attendance at the G-8 summit in Sochi next month over the Ukrainian situation

Middle East

– The U.N. reports for the month of February 703 people died throughout Iraq. January featured 733. The figure is higher than a year before.

– President Hassan Rouhani: We can’t stress enough we won’t develop WMDs because it is against our principles
