The Ukraine and exporting “Democracy” again

I am always suspicious when ever I here about “Bringing Democracy” to a country or region. To me this is just dog whistle talk for raping, pillaging and otherwise destroying some country to the benefit of some Oligarchy. Either ours or theirs, but usually both.

This time it’s the Ukraine. Oh there are those pundits that say “Europe and the US’ or “The West” does not have a clue what to do. But oh they know very well what to do. They just hope they can do it in a way nobody will notice. As Kenneth Rapoza in Forbs states, they have their man in now, so half the battle is won.

‘Recall the phone exchange between the Ukraine ambassador and Victoria Nuland (Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs) that got leaked out, where she basically said “we want Yats in there.” They like him because he’s pro Western,’ says Vladimir Signorelli, president of boutique investment research firm Bretton Woods Research LLC in New Jersey. ‘Yatsenyuk is the the kind of technocrat you want if you want austerity, with the veneer of professionalism,’ Signorelli said. ‘He’s the type of guy who can hobnob with the European elite. A Mario Monti type: unelected and willing to do the IMFs bidding,’ he said.

Yep … precisely what they want. I feel sorry for the people though. They managed to oust one Oligarch who was Putin’s lap dog only to have one now that is willing to be a neo-con and Brussels lap dog. The biggest problem with the Ukraine as well as here, you have just enough people who who think they are well off enough that they can support the next fool who will promise them security and more and still ignore those who continue to get the shaft.

The biggest drag on any country are not those at the very top or the very bottom. It’s those close enough to the top who worship the ones at the top because they envy them. They are also the ones most easily manipulated, by religion and nationalism and ethnic identity.

And so it goes.
