Tom Perkins Calls For End To Universal Suffrage

Tom Perkins, member and apparently self-appointed spokesman for the top 1%, has moved beyond claiming those that support progressive taxation are Nazis and on to calling for an end to universal suffrage.

From a plush chair at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, Perkins said those who can not pay taxes should not be able to vote and those who pay more taxes should have more votes.

“The Tom Perkins system is: You don’t get to vote unless you pay a dollar of taxes,” Perkins said.

But what I really think is, it should be like a corporation. You pay a million dollars in taxes, you get a million votes. How’s that?”

Perkins clarified that he meant income tax not general taxes. So a true plutocratic system, where those without a certain income would not have the right to vote and those with more money had more votes. As Perkins said it would be a corporate democracy.

The irony of course is, rich. The system Perkins proposes is exactly the kind of corporatocracy that Occupy Wall Street claimed the United States was becoming. Perkins not only embarrassed himself by making a ridiculous comparison of progressives to the Nazis, he confirmed many of the speculations of income inequality activists – that the top 1% see themselves as a class apart and entitled to more political power than their poorer fellow citizens.

Perkins, a multimillionaire who spends much of his time and wealth building ever bigger sailboats, has decided to become not only the epitome but the spokesman for the 1%.

He might be surprised how welcome he is to assume that role by his opponents.
