Charlie Crist Plans to Vote for Medical Marijuana in Florida

Gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist (D) says he supports the Florida medical marijuana ballot measure

Now that medical marijuana has made the ballot in Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist says he plans to vote for it. From the Huffington Post:

Gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Crist (D) said he will vote for a November constitutional amendment that would legalize medical marijuana in Florida.

“This is an issue of compassion, trusting doctors, and trusting the people of Florida,” Crist said in a statement emailed to The Huffington Post. “I will vote for it.”

On the other hand, incumbent Governor Rick Scott (R) has previously said he plans to vote against the constitutional amendment.

Having a governor that is supportive of medical marijuana can be very important to the success of any program if the voters approve the measure. Getting a law approved is only half the process. There are always numerous regulatory issues that need to be addressed before a law can be turned into an actual functioning system, which gives the governor significant power to shape the implementation.
