Two-Thirds Dissatisfied With Our System of Government

The number of Americans dissatisfied with our system of government has risen to a new high as shown in Gallup’s polling. Now 65 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with how are system of government works. This is an incredible change from just 12 years ago with only 23 percent were dissatisfied back in 2002. From Gallup:

Trend: Americans' Dissatisfaction With System of Government and Its Effectiveness

With Congressional approval around record lows and dissatisfaction with the new at highs, as a country we are going to need to start talking about real reforms. The problem is not just with this president or this congress.

It is not healthy that our Congressional elections no longer reflect the will the voters. It is dangerous that campaigns have gotten so expensive/difficult only a handful of seats are actually contested in the general election. While the rules of the Senate have changed slightly it bad for the country when the rules make inaction the default status of the chamber. This doesn’t allow the “sauce to cool”, it just speeds up a problematic transfer of power to the Presidency, who is elected using the stupidest system known to man.
