Edward Snowden’s Christmas Message

British Channel 4 in the UK gave NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden the opportunity to deliver a Christmas Message. In the message Snowden compared the surveillance state to British novelist George Orwell’s 1984 saying a child born today will “never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves, an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought.”

“Recently, we learned our governments working on concert have created a system of world-wide mass surveillance, watching every thing we do..

The types of collection in the book – microphones and video cameras, TVs that watch us – are nothing compared to what we have available today,” Snowden says on Channel 4 which has been broadcast alternative Christmas messages for many years. “We have sensors in our pockets that track us everywhere we go. Think about what this means for the privacy of the average person.”

Snowden said the conversation that happens today in light of his revelations will be determinative of the future of privacy, if it has one.

Update: Channel 4 is blocking the YouTube on copyright grounds, and does not allow embedding on websites, trying to drive people to their website to see it. Fortunately RT has a copy above.
