Peter Lewis, Billionaire Marijuana Reform Advocate, Passes Away at 80
This is a sad day for the marijuana reform community. Peter Lewis, the billionaire chairman of Progressive Insurance died at his home in Florida on Saturday. He was 80. Lewis was a successful businessman, philanthropist and very politically engaged.
For decades Lewis was also one of the most prominent advocates for marijuana reform. He was personally helped by the medical use of cannabis.
He generously spent millions supporting organization, campaigns, and ballot initiatives to try to change marijuana laws across the country. He was a significant force behind marijuana legalization and played an important role in helping to greatly advance the issue in the past few years.
Sadly he passes away just as his long-term goal of marijuana legalization is finally starting to be realized.
