Chris Geidner reports this morning that National Organization for Marriage ended 2012 with a $1 million deficit:

According to reports filed with Internal Revenue Service, The National Organization for Marriage, which has been a leader in the fight against same-sex couples’ marriage rights, was more than $2.7 million in the red because of of its political advocacy arm’s spending, while the organization’s educational arm ended fiscal year 2012 with just over $1.6 million in the bank.

All told, the organization was more than $1 million in the red following a difficult year for those fighting marriage equality battles.

But there’s another important fact to be reported.  Despite NOM’s $1M deficit, NOM’s top employees got pay increases in 2012.  Here is a summary table of compensation I created from NOM’s financial reports (IRS 990) for 2011 and 2012.

Who says anti-LGBT hatemongering doesn’t pay?  For Maggie Gallagher, Brian Brown and Jennifer Roback Morse, it pays quite nicely, even as they lead the organization into financial peril.  Bottom line be damned, they’re getting theirs.
