Obama and GOP Both Hit Record Lows

They can’t get much lower

It seems almost everyone and everything in Washington has become less popular in the past month. President Obama’s job approval rating has hit a new low according to the NBC/WSJ poll. The poll found only 42 percent approve of his job performance while 51 percent disapprove.

Republicans shouldn’t be too excited about this poll because the news for them is also terrible. Opinions about the Republican Party have continued to slip to yet another historic low. Only 22 percent of Americans hold a positive opinion about the GOP while 53 percent view the party negatively. Democrats also hold a four point lead in the generic ballot.

What should most concern members of Congress is that the American people are not just upset with the institution but are unhappy with their own members. Only 29 percent think their member deserves to be reelected. This is lowest it has been in over two decades.

It is almost as if the American people don’t like being needlessly subjected to a month of crippling dysfunction at the hands of their elected officials and are blaming everyone involved. Imagine that.
