Only 19 Percent of Americans Back GOP’s Obamacare Defunding Tactics

Ted Cruz's plan to shut down the US government is wildly unpopular

Ted Cruz’s plan to shut down the US government is wildly unpopular

The American people overwhelmingly oppose the Republican idea of threatening to shut down the government or default on the debt in order to try and defund Obamacare.

According to a new CNBC poll  only 19 percent support the Republican plan to hold the government hostage to defund Obamacare, while 59 percent oppose the effort.

The Affordable Care Act is not popular but what regular people care about more is a functioning government. They want to be able to use the basic government services they need to go about their daily lives. They don’t want Washington needlessly creating problems. The GOP is at risk of seriously overplaying their hand on health care.

It is truly remarkable that a plan this terrible and stupid could still managed to gain so much traction among Congressional Republicans. It is politically dangerous, unpopular, and can’t even work.
