House Passes CR That Defunds Obamacare

{!hitembed ID=”hitembed_1″ width=”350″ height=”263″ align=”right” !}
House Republicans passed a continuing resolution that would keep the government funded which contains the Obamacare defunding demanded by conservatives. The bill was approved 230-189 in a mostly party line vote. Now the bill goes to the Senate where this effort is doomed to fail.

The Senate is likely to spend a few days stripping the Obamacare defunding from the bill and sending a clean CR back to the House. There is no way Senate Democrats or President Obama are going to undermine Obama’s signature achievement in order to stop a government shutdown voters would blame on the GOP.

Hopefully, this will waste enough time and make a sufficiently number of House Republicans feel they have proof the strategy simply can’t work. At that point the looming crisis will be ripe enough so Boehner can say he is forced to move forward with a mostly clean CR, likely with the help of a few votes from Democrats.

This is some of extremely boring yet dangerous political theater.
