GOP Will Be Blamed for Government Shutdown

GOPAfter some Republicans have spent months threatening to shut down the government unless Obamacare is defunded the American people have rightly decided to blame the GOP if there is a shutdown.

According to a new CNN/ORC poll, 51 percent of Americans would blame Republicans if there is a shutdown, only 31 percent would blame Obama and another 12 percent would blame both equally. 74 percent of Americans believe a government shutdown that lasts for several weeks would be either a crisis or a major problem.

Similarly, the poll found that if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, 54 percent would blame the GOP while only 25 percent would blame Obama.

I continue to fail to understand how conservatives even think this strategy could work. Step one in their plan is to create a crisis that will overwhelmingly be blamed on them. Somehow by magic this will make a president, who never needs to worry about another election, willing to destroy his legacy to help save Republicans from weeks of terrible press.

This is less a plan to hold the economy hostage and more a plan to hold your own political party hostage while threatening to shoot.
