U.S. Born Hispanics Even More Democratic-Leaning Than New Immigrants

Hispanics in America overwhelming identify with the Democratic Party, according to a new Gallup poll. By greater than a 2-1 margin Hispanics are more likely to identify with Democrats than Republicans. From Gallup:

Party ID Among Hispanics, by Number of Generations in U.S., June-July 2013

This breakdown should really concern Republicans. The poll found Hispanics with a longer family history in the United States are more likely to identify with Democrats than new immigrants. It shows that the GOP doesn’t have a problem with immigrants, it has a problem with an ethnic group.

If the Republican problem with Hispanics was really just a problem with new immigrants (who just happen to be Hispanics) this issue would start to resolve itself with Republicans change. Immigration from Latin America has slowed significantly in recent years. Instead, Republicans must do something to fix their problems with all Hispanics to stay viable.

Republicans are facing a real demographic cliff and the problem appears to be accelerating. Not only is the number of Hispanics growing, but Hispanics families appear to become even more opposed to Republicans the longer they are in the country.
