Democratic Polls Show Mitch McConnell Narrowly Losing
If two new polls done for Democratically aligned groups and Democrat challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes are to be believed then Senator Mitch McConnell (R) is currently narrowly trailing in his Kentucky re-election bid.
A PPP poll commissioned Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and Democracy For America (DFA) found that Grimes with 45 percent compared to McConnell at 44 percent. Being well under 50 percent is a dangerous place for a well known incumbent. The poll was conducted last month but released yesterday.
In addition the Grimes campaign released their own internal poll showing her up by two. The poll was done by the Mellman Group and found Grimes at 44 percent and McConnell at 42 percent. Obviously as an internal campaign the results should be taken with a grain of salt.
Both polls found that McConnell is suffering from very bad job approval numbers.
These polls reinforce that Kentucky remains the best pick opportunity for Democrats next year, but that is mostly a by-product of the entire Senate map being so terrible for Democrats in 2014. Given the Republican leanings of the Kentucky this is still likely going to be a tough race for Democrats to win.
