Ted Cruz’s Ridiculous Obamacare Defunding Road Show

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)

Although threatening to shutdown the government unless Obamacare is defunded is both practically and logically unworkable, it hasn’t stopped it from becoming a great way to rally the truly die hard conservatives. It has been such a crowd pleaser with the base that Sen. Ted Cruz plans to turn this already doomed plan into a multiple stop promotional tour with the Heritage Action*.

Today, Heritage Action for America announced it will host town halls in nine cities across the nation. Joining Heritage Action’s CEO Michael A. Needham on the “Defund Obamacare Tour” will be Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint and Rafael Cruz, father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). In Dallas, Sen. Cruz will join the other speakers in raising awareness about the need for Congress to defund Obamacare. […]

Heritage Action’s town hall tour will begin on Aug. 19 in Fayetteville, Ark., and will conclude August 29 in Wilmington, Del. Other cities on the tour include: Dallas, Tampa, Fla., Nashville, Tenn., Birmingham, Ala., Indianapolis, Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh. The meetings are open to the public.

The GOP base hates Obamacare and this is a great way as a Republican to raise your profile and get donations. Also, it is a great way to prove you are the “true conservative” in a possible 2016 field.

The fact that Obamcare will continue to be funded even if Republicans shutdown the government hasn’t reduced Cruz’s passion for the idea, because this “plan” isn’t about trying to find real leverage to change government policy. Cruz has literally turned it into political theater and theater doesn’t necessarily need to be believable for it to be popular.
