Snowden Continues to Be Viewed as a Whistleblower

New revelations about the scope of the NSA’s domestic spying and the ongoing Congressional debate has surprisingly had little impact on how the public views Edward Snowden as an individual.

The latest Quinnipiac poll found 55 percent of registered voters view Snowden as more of a whistle-blower for leaking information about the NSA while just 34 percent see him as a traitor for his actions. These numbers are literally unchanged since last month.

It appears most Americans have formed rather firm opinions about the man that are unlikely to move without some very significant new developments.

Opinions about Snowden are also remarkably uniform across the political spectrum. A majority of Republicans, Democrats and Independents all see Snowden as more of a whistle-blower. Republicans as a whole have only a slightly less positive view of Snowden than the rest of the public but 51 percent still see him more of a whistle-blower.
