Some good news for tonight. A North Dakota state law outlawing one kind of medicational abortion was ruled unconstitutional, reports The Bismarck Tribune:

North Dakota already has spent more than $52,000 defending the 2011 state law, according to records obtained by The Associated Press. Records show that Dr. Donna Harrison, the president the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, has billed the state more than $49,000 to act as an expert witness.

In his ruling Monday, Corwin was highly critical of Harrison, saying her ‘opinions lack scientific support, tend to be based on unsubstantiated concerns and are generally at odds with solid medical evidence.’

The admitting privileges law was one of four that the Republican-controlled Legislature and GOP Gov. Jack Dalrymple passed this year, giving North Dakota the nation’s most stringent abortion laws. They are slated to take effect Aug. 1.

And The Raw Story reports that California courts declined to halt same-sex marriages:

The California Supreme Court on Monday rejected a legal request to stop counties from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

‘Everyone on all sides of the marriage debate should agree that the legal process must be followed,’ attorney Austin R. Nimocks of Alliance Defending Freedom said. ‘Although we would have preferred for the California Supreme Court to issue a stay so that the state’s marriage amendment would be respected sooner rather than later, the proponents of Proposition 8 will continue to urge the court to uphold the rule of law. We remain hopeful that the court will recognize that Proposition 8 remains the law of the land in California and that county clerks must continue to enforce it.’
