This may be the moment to join hands
This may be the moment for the LGBT community to reach out to the African-American community, not in an opportunistic way, but in genuine solidarity and compassion. Maybe hand-in-hand with the arts community, there’s so much overlap we’re almost the same people. This could be the moment when we help turn anger into healing, fear into mutual support. Instead of sparking violence as the Rodney King verdict did in 1992, this time the moment when justice failed Trayvon can become the moment that we start joining hands as brothers and sisters and realizing we have a hell of a lot in common. As Marvin Gaye said, there’s far too many of us dying. Talk to me, people. How can the LGBT community reach out in a meaningful way?
