You may have heard of toxic-rock homophobic preacher Bradley Dean “Bradlee Dean” Smith before at FDL. Mr. Smith seems to have been on a downhill slide lately. He’s had to pay Rachel Maddow’s legal bills in the aftermath of the implosion of his SLAPP suit against her, he’s been kicked off of Walmart property, and he now seems to have picked the wrong person to pick on, per Aaron Rupar at City Pages:

Today, Jake Dagel, a 20-year-old Iowa college student who worked for Bradlee Dean’s “You Can Run But You Cannot Hide” ministry until late last month, went public with allegations the ministry is a cult and that Dean is a crook.

In a press release, Dagel alleges Dean’s ministry took all his money, barred him from reading the news, and ultimately kicked him out of a vehicle he and other ministry members were riding through Tennessee at 3 a.m. after he couldn’t pay for gas.

By the way, Dagel isn’t just any old kid, much less some hippie who tried to infiltrate the self-styled “Junkyard Prophet’s” inner circle, but an up-and-coming figure in Iowa’s Republican Party. Sally Jo Sorensen has the deets — and also notes that Dagel is coming under attack from one of Bradlee Dean’s friends in the national conservative movement, Operation Rescue president Troy Newman.

City Pages is running an interview with Dagel tomorrow morning. Dean watchers should watch for it.
