Showdown at the Texas Legislature
Tonight, or early tomorrow a final vote is expected on #HB2 / #SB1, the giant anti-abortion omnibus bill that may prove deadly to Texas women by closing dozens of crucial health clinics.
Today has been tumultuous at the Capitol already. Thousands of pro-choice activists are present, chanting, holding space, and trying to Occupy the gallery. Earlier, Twitter was aflame with #TamponGate as Troopers were banning tampons and maxipads from the legislature. One ally from Occupy Austin, Carey Dunn, was arrested while peacefully sitting in the gallery, reportedly charged with resisting arrest, failure to identify, and criminal trespass. Another, Corey Williams, a livestreamer who uses the #OccupySupply laptop, was banned from the Capitol on threat of arrest after he attempted to complain about Trooper treatment in Wendy Davis’ office.
In a few minutes I’ll be traveling down to the Capitol, trying to avoid arrest, and getting ready for the night’s march and related actions. Wish me luck. [cont’d.]
