The latest from the Guardian states 54 dead, many shot in the back, hundreds injured, outside the Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo. Egyptian army claims they were attacked and were only defending themselves, witnesses say nonsense, the troops opened live fire into the unarmed crowd of Morsi supporters after launching tear gas and firing into the air forcing the crowd back.

Are they trying to precipitate a civil war?
