The vast majority of Americans won’t want their children to become politicians. According a new Gallup poll, 64 percent don’t want their children to make politics their profession. From Gallup:

This is at least a tripartisan issue. Republicans, Independents and Democrats would all prefer to see their children not become politicians.

This is sadly part of a self-feeding downward spiral. The more regular people look down on politicians, the less likely “good” people are going to want to run for office. The fewer good people in office, the more likely regular people are going to look down on politicians as a whole and the profession of politics. This will make running even less appealing. Fixing this dynamic would require a huge cultural shift.
