Confidence in Congress Hits a New Low

Confidence in Congress is the lowest it has even been in the past 40 years. According to Gallup, only 10 percent of Americans have a lot of confidence in the institution. The poll found confidence in Congress was equally bad among Democrats, Independents and Republicans. From Gallup:

Confidence in Congress, Trend Since 1973

According to President Obama we shouldn’t worry about the NSA’s newly revealed massive surveillance programs because a Congress the American people have little confidence in was “fully briefed.” Even though Congress was clearly not fully briefed on the issue, and when Congress tried to provide oversight they were actively lied to by top ranking officials.

Of course the fact that Congress apparently doesn’t know what it is doing and has not done a good job with oversight on this issue might be part of the reason confidence in the body is so low.
