New Congessional Stipends – Buy them back

Personally I believe the quickest way to get or representatives to represent us, and not moneyed interests, is to buy them back.

Here’s a proposal to make Congress more accountable and responsible to us:

Current

Senate Leadership
Majority Party Leader – $193,400
Minority Party Leader – $193,400

House Leadership
Speaker of the House – $223,500
Majority Leader – $193,400
Minority Leader – $193,400

Ordinary members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year.

These are so low, compared to industry, as to explain the need for a significant increase. Here’s the new proposal:

Senate Leadership
Majority Party Leader – $100,000,000
Minority Party Leader – $100,000,000

House Leadership
Speaker of the House – $125,000,000
Majority Leader – $100,000,000
Minority Leader – $100,000,000

Ordinary members of the House and Senate is $10,000,000 per year.

All campaign costs paid out of General Revenues, with no limit.

All TV spots, cable, internet, satellite provided for free, as a gift to the people, for all candidates, as part of the TV licensing costs.

Washington DC residents, because DC has no vote for a federal representative, becomes Federal Tax Exempt (fastest urban renewal project ever).

These are responsible jobs, and need to be paid a salary commensurate with the responsibility.

For every hour spend fundraising, each congress person’s salary is reduced by 5%, all payable to any whistle-blower who provides proof.

For every vote not supported by over 50% of their district’s constituents, the congress member looses 1% of their stipend. The 50% can be tabulated by polling for five years, however after 5 years every citizen is compelled to vote on issues facing congress, by mail or online, every week, or be fined $100 for each vote missed. After 20 consecutively missed votes their car is confiscated.

Stipends and fines are linked to the same index as SS payments.
