Jobs and the Economy: Issues Regular People Actually Care About

While it seems Congress has forgotten that we have been suffering with unacceptably high unemployment for years regular Americans have not. Once again the top concern for Americans is the economy followed a close second by unemployment. From Gallup:

Trend: What do you think is the most important problem facing this country today? [OPEN-ENDED]

The issues that Washington is currently focused on (immigration, gun control, deficit reduction) all barely rank as most important with many people. If Congress was working on several problems while also trying to fix the economy that would be fine, but simply ignoring what most people care most about has left DC appearing more disconnected than ever.

It is not surprising that the number three biggest problem is dissatisfaction with the government when for years there has been basically no serious effort by the government to address to the top two concerns.
