RI: Bishop Tobin’s Flock Calls Marriage Equality “Inmoral” and “Unnecesary”

“Same Sex Marriage is inmoral (sic) And Unnecessary”

During last night’s legislative hearing on Rhode Island’s marriage equality bill, opponents of the legislation held signs that appeared to be quoting Bishop Thomas Tobin.

Last week, the bishop released a statement that began with the sentence: “The proposal to legalize “same-sex marriage” in the State of Rhode Island is immoral and unnecessary.

“Same Sex Marriage is inmoral (sic) And Unnecesary (sic)”

Judging by photographs taken at the event, the bishop needs to use smaller words.  “Immoral” and “unnecessary” clearly strained the spelling abilities of his flock.

Perhaps the saddest part of it all is that it is clear from the penmanship and spelling patterns that these signs and others posted elsewhere online were created by different people. It wasn’t just one person who goofed, but rather several semi-literate people replicating each others mistakes.

“Do Not Redifine (sic) Marriage”

I don’t want to know what barrel the good bishop was scraping the bottom of last night to put this group of protesters together, but it sure doesn’t appear to contain the thinking, well-informed Roman Catholic majority. A majority, by the way, that happens to support marriage equality.

I can’t wait to see what Bishop Tobin’s foot soldiers come up with next time. Too bad “Get A Brain! Morans” is already taken.
