Over Easy: Friday End of the World Free for All

This week's end of the world weather forecast graphic

This week's weather forecast

This Friday Free for All is the last one I’ll have to do…according to those Mayans Maya. h/t MFI (Nonquixote says, “No pressure, Molly. I mean NO freaking pressure!”)

To celebrate the end of the world, Google has the best ever Google Doodle. Last minute editorial note: “The best Google Doodle evah!!” was advertised, but as of 7:15 a.m. there’s nothing…but the Telegraph has it: End of the 13th Baktun, or at least a picture of it.

So Papa, how do you like the iPad we got you? No need to understand the language!

Salon’s Hack List for 2012 is out! Alex Pareene compiles it, and says,

This year, my annual list of the worst of political media highlights not just individuals, but the institutions that enable those individuals. The 2012 Hack List will be counting down the 10 media outlets that are hurting America…

The three wise men have an argument on the way to Bethlehem.

I was going to try to keep it on the light side this week, but honest to god Mike Huckabee is a creep.

A bit of a personal anecdote. A local occupational therapy clinic is on one of the roads I frequently travel. In front is one of those signs with changeable letters, and for the past couple of weeks the sign has read, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” (I understand this is a basketball cliche. I thought they were promoting flu vaccine!) But when I drove by today, the relevance of this saying to the Newtown shootings smacked me right between the eyes. So I got their phone number on my iPhone (thanks, Siri!) and called them, and politely suggested they might consider changing their sign. The pleasant lady on the phone obviously was startled, and immediately agreed. On my return past the clinic, no more than 20 minutes later, the sign was bare!

Finally, to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook shootings, consider doing 26 Acts of Kindness.

Happy Solstice, everypup!
